IOM’s app for migrants launches four additional languages
On 13 November, the UN Migration Agency (IOM) launched it’s ‘MigApp’ in four more languages. The app designed to support migrants became available for download with more user accessible icons and a redesigned drop down menu.
MigApp 3.0 now comes in eight languages, making it available to a larger number of people. The app now supports Portuguese, Italian, Chinese and Russian, in addition to the original French, Spanish, Arabic and English.
The App was set up to support migrants in making decisions about their journeys and simplifying access to secure and reliable information.
The new release contains contact information for 1,700+ services under headings such as human trafficking assistance and medical centres, and immigration and consular offices. It allows migrants to customise a page by their country of interest and favourite feature.
Marietta Muwanga-Ssevume, Chief Information Officer, IOM commented:
“We are very excited about the introduction of MigApp to Mesoamerica and South America. This launch is a result of the strong collaboration and partnership between the Information and Communications Technology Division and the regional office in Costa Rica and country missions throughout Mesoamerica.
“The teams worked very hard to combine the regional contextual information and services provided by the MigrantApp with the thematic information from MigApp to provide a greatly enhanced product.”
The new release combines MigApp with the MigrantApp, which is an IOM mobile app that was available in Mesoamerica.
MigApp supports Member States and their goal to accomplish three crucial Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as reduce transaction costs of migrant remittances, facilitate orderly, safe regular and responsible migration and end modern slavery/human trafficking.
